A quick recap:
- Association membership has been strong and steady over the past 5 years, with an average annual membership range of 300-350 households. There is room for growth, and last year had a dip of memberships, so please pay your membership as soon as possible: http://www.merrymountquincy.com/membership.html
- Association finances are also strong, and we ended 2022 maintaining the the largest reserves in recent history. Last year, however, the Association did not have any major capital expenditures, and this will change in 2023 and 2024. And, as we all know, everything costs more these days! So, our fixed expenses (taxes, utilities, insurance, landscaping, dumpster) continue to rise. So, back to point one, increasing the membership base is vital as memberships account for the vast majority of the Association's finances since we do not charge for attendance at any event.
- Beach Property Improvements - Over the past few years, the Association has added picnic tables, 6 trees, landscaping, a new patio, additional lighting, and new grill in the shack.
- In 2023, the Association will be spending approximately $10k on electrical and lighting improvements to the beach grounds and the shack. Not the most exciting way to spend money, but long overdue and necessary for safety. We have also worked with Quincy High School's metal shop to build an amazing custom fire pit that we will hopefully be installing this month at the Beach.
- Events and Activities - The Association Board has planned, organized, and facilitated more events and activities at the Beach and around Quincy in recent years than ever before. 2023 has already seen a number of neighborhood meet-ups around the City, the largest egg hunt ever (3,000 eggs!!), a beach cleanup, and a ski weekend up in New Hampshire with close to 20 families. New this year is a Quincy Free Jacks game on April 22. We'll also return the very popular Food Truck and Live Music Friday starting April 28. The spring, summer and fall will be jam packed with events - but we need volunteers to make these events successful! You know you're coming to the Beach for the event - please volunteer an hour (or 4) of your time to help out (or avoid your spouse and kids, whatever works!). It's a great way to get involved, meet some other neighbors, and to keep these events possible.
- 100 Year Anniversary! In 2024, the Association turns 100. Shoutout to everyone who has played a part in building, maintaining, and improving this Association. We spent a good portion of the meeting last night talking about ideas for celebrating the Association's centennial. We'd like to make some significant additions to the Beach property that will be long-lasting. The main two ideas are a new playground and a pavilion structure to provide shade/rain coverage. Obviously, both will be expensive. So, fundraising will be crucial. To join the 100 year committee, submit fundraising ideas, add ideas for 100 year improvements or ideas to celebrate the anniversary, or to submit historical photos to add to our collection, please check out our new 100 Year webpage - http://www.merrymountquincy.com/100-year.html

The Merrymount Association 2023 membership drive is now underway and we ask that you please pay your annual dues as soon as possible to help make this year another year to remember in Merrymount!
We need strong membership support to ensure the Association's finances remain solid and that projects and improvements at the Beach can continue in 2023 and as we approach our 100 year anniversary in 2024.
In 2022, we continued our improvements to the Beach property with additional landscaping, lighting, and work on the shack. We also enjoyed a return to our full slate of events at the Beach and around the community in 2022. The shack was also back in business throughout the summer months.
Plans for 2023 include a custom designed fire-pit area, further landscaping additions, as well as improvements to the lighting and play area. Taxes, insurance, utilities, and property maintenance costs continue to rise each year as well, so please know how valuable and important your dues are to the upkeep and beautification of Merrymount Beach.
We're also looking forward to another full slate of events again this year. Last year's music and food trucks at the Beach in the Spring and Fall were hugely popular and we're planning on bringing that back again this year.
We'll also plan on the following: Mardi Gras celebration, St. Patrick's Day Party, Easter Egg Hunt, Summer Kickoff Party, Freedom Beach Celebration and Junior Olympics, July 4th Parade, Family Fun Day at the Beach, Live Music Nights, Movie Night/Campout, Beach Market and Beer Garden, Fall Festival & Halloween Kids Party, Patriot's Tailgate, Turkey Trot, Ugly Sweater Party, Horse Drawn Sleigh Rides, and more!
Please pay your dues online via Paypal at www.merrymountquincy.com/membership or by sending in the membership form and check to 11 Hobomack Road.
Please also get involved and volunteer to make all of these events a success, we always need a hand!!

BEACH IMPROVEMENTS
Check out the pictures below of the before and after of our beach improvement at Merrymount Beach. You’ll find an expanded patio, new plantings, restored and enhanced slope toward the beach, and a new tree to provide much needed shade in the play area. Still to come will be another new picnic table and hopefully more landscaping through the season as we see how everything grows.
PLEASE, please, please, and pretty please stay off and out of the newly planted beds and gardens. Dogs must be leashed at the beach. Please use the two sets of steps to get to the beach and don’t walk down the newly planted slopes.
Thank you to all who have paid their dues this year as that makes beach improvements possible. For those who have not, please do so here: http://www.merrymountquincy.com/membership.html
Beach improvements continue with a granite ramp down to the beach - perfect for your kayak or stroller! Thank you to Joe Connor for the vision on this part of the project and for MJ Nicholls Landscaping for all their work at the beach this spring. Please a continued reminder to stay out of the newly planted garden beds and to keep your dogs leashed at the beach!
