Hello Neighbors.
Let’s hope spring is almost here! As we continue our commitment to go green, all Merrymount Association notifications have been going out through email and posted on our website. Thanks to Mark Bentley who has been very helpful in keeping neighbors up-to-date on all our neighborhood happenings and events. The Board continues to attract great talent in its members and we are thrilled to announce the addition of three new Board Members: Brian Konish of Squanto Road, Erin Feeney of Butler Road and Travis Jacobs of Pontiac Road (?). All bring a ton of enthusiasm and energy to the Board and we welcome their community spirit and involvement! Please come to our Annual Meeting on Tuesday, March 25th at 7:00 p.m. at our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, 227 Sea Street in Merrymount to meet our new Board Members and here about our plans for 2014.
Since our last newsletter, we enjoyed another memorable July3rd/4th celebration. Festivities included: a Road Race, , the crowning of two Miss Merrymounts, Scholarships to High School Seniors, games, fun activities, over a 100 people egg toss, delicious food, rocking music thanks to DJ Mark McGillicuddy, Merrymount Olympics and a parade! These celebrations could not happen without the help of hundreds of neighbors….a TREMENDOUS THANK YOU goes out to all who helped in the coordination and execution of these events! There are too many to name!
We kicked off August by cheering on our ducks in the Annual Duck Race at the beach. Kids of all ages helped out and jumped in the water to catch the SURPRINGLY SLOW swimming ducks. And rain did not keep away the campers at the Camp Out at the Beach back in August. All who braved the weather had a ball! Throughout the summer, the shack attracted many satisfied customers with its ‘Great Meals for Great Deals’ approach. Thanks to all who worked a night at the shack! The ‘Shack-speare’ productions directed by Molly Long each Monday night were also quite a draw. Pictures enclosed in the newsletter will show that Merrymount is filled with many future performers!
Dozens of families teamed up for the Horseshoe Tournament in September on a picture perfect day! The Merrymount Association, led by the Sauters, organized its first Oktoberfest which was a raving success. The food and beverages were a big hit and many new families strolled down the beach to enjoy the afternoon. The freezing temperatures didn’t keep neighbors inside on Thanksgiving morning. Folks of all ages started their Thanksgiving with a bang by running the Turkey Trot. It was organized to perfection as usual. A big thanks to all who donated to the ‘Winter Wonderland’ initiative. The fence was lined with wreaths and the white lights sparkled along the shores of the beach! Santa joined a joyous group of neighbors in our Christmas Caroling this year and Chuck Jaehnig’s sleigh could be heard from a couple streets away around the neighborhood.
We initiated our membership drive in January and we thank everyone for their generous donation in membership dues thus far. There is no deadline to pay your dues…we accept payments throughout the year. Every dollar counts and every dollar we collect supports the maintenance of our beach and our activities.
And finally, a sincere appreciation goes out to our elected officials for the exemplary service and responsiveness. We are fortunate to have such great leadership at the local, state and federal level. We appreciate the support of Mayor Tom Koch, City Councilor Margaret Laforest and her colleagues in the City Council, our Community Police Officer Billy Mitchell, State Representative Tackey Chan, our neighbor State Senator John Keenan, and Congressman Stephen Lynch. All are a phone call and email away and have been very supportive in the mission and activities of the Merrymount Association.
It has been an enjoyable couple of months for the Association. As we said before, there are too many people to thank for their ongoing commitment and dedication to the betterment of our neighborhood. In particular, the Board dedicates much of their free time and energy to make our neighborhood what it is! We are lucky to have such an energized group. We hope to see you at the Merrymount Association’s Annual Meeting on Tuesday, March 25th. Please follow the upcoming events on our website at at www.merrymountquincy.com and on Twitter…Thanks to Mark Sauter for bringing us into the ages and maintaining our tweeter account!

Merrymount's Good Neighbor Award
2013 - Q2
Rosalind Cuschera - Merrymount Good Neighbor Award Winner Q2 2013
I would like to nominate Rosalind Cuschera, well known to many Merrymount residents as “Roz”. It is now 50 years ago that Roz moved into our neighborhood and she made it for sure a better place to live. It is amazing to see how much energy she has. Not only is she a fantastic grandmother, but she is also volunteering on the board of the “Osher Lifelong Learning Institute” from the University of Massachusetts and the “Friends of the Thomas Crane Library”. One of Roz’ Merrymount achievements is to bring a lot of attention to our annual Flea Market which is held in June each year. Since she seems to know everyone in this area we are mentioned in the Quincy Sun, Patriot Ledger, Quincy TV, church bulletin boards etc. Roz is always smiling and has a warm word for all her neighbors. I am delighted to work with Roz in the hospitality committee for Merrymount. “Roz, to another 50 years in Merrymount and THANKS for all your hard work!”
Thank you for being such a great asset to our community!

Merrymount's Good Neighbor Award
2012 - Q2
Theresa Lynch has been awarded the first quarter "Good Neighbor Award" from the Merrymount Association. Her dedication and support for her neighbors have been expressed by their numerous nominations. The nomination below is just an example of her caring actions.
" Theresa is an individual whom always goes above and beyond for her neighbors; a clear example of this occurred on the evening of January 9th. While returning home with my 3 year old I fell and shattered my ankle on my front lawn. My son quickly ran to Theresa's door and called for her help, immediately she jumped into action coming to my aid, calling 911 and most importantly, taking care of my frightened boy. I was also 6 months pregnant and her concern and quick thinking made a big difference in my medical care once the ambulance arrived. During the next 5 days while I was in the hospital she took care of my child and my husband and I will always be greatful for her going the extra mile for our family. Theresa is always willing to lend a hand, watch the children in the neighborhood and generally spread good humor. I feel that I am very lucky to have Theresa as my neighbor, she certainly has gone above and beyond for me and I really wish to recognize her for it. "

Thank you.
Merrymount Association's Skating Rink
A special thank you to the Rink Crew for assembling the framework and getting the area filled. The frame has been built. The liner has been laid. The water has been pumped in.We are asking parents to PLEASE tell their children to stay off the ice until the rink crew says it is solid. Once the "Yellow Caution" tape that surrounds the rink has been taken down & the nets are out, that will be the signal that it is ready.
